Sixth Form Pathways Programme Underway

TheÌýfirst stage of the Sixth Form Pathways ProgrammeÌýculminated in a presentation finale at the end of last term, with Team 1945ÌýbeatingÌý14Ìýother entries and truly convincing us thatÌý1945Ìýwas indeed the most influential year of the 20th Century. Lower SixthÌý students had been working on the project across three weeks, honing their planning, research and teamwork skills and adding to the other career and social skills developed as part of the programme, including networking, public speaking and building an effective online profile.ÌýÌýÌý

This termÌýnowÌýsees pupilsÌýdivide into their chosen “pathwayâ€, with nearly 30 pupils electing to do an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ),Ìýthe inaugural yearÌýfor the school to offerÌýthis programme. In addition, 24 students have chosen to participate in our Degree Apprenticeship pathway, evidence of the fast-growing interest this career routeÌýis now generating. The remaining students have chosen a pathway that allows then to dedicate time to building skills specific to their area of interest post Sixth Form, including Oxbridge, Medicine and visual and performing arts applications.ÌýÌý

AÌýnew programme of support for budding US university applicantsÌýhas also been launched. Last term we deliveredÌýaÌýnumber ofÌýinformation sessions on themesÌýsuch as standardised testing (SATs/ACTs) and sports scholarships, as well as access to US university fairs. This term we will hold several workshops including how to choose the right university, the admissions process and the new digital SAT. Applications to US universities isÌýan area we are seeing more and more interest and we’re delighted that so many pupilsÌýare taking advantage of these enrichment opportunities.Ìý
